This video demonstrates ways that parents can incorporate play into their daily routines. Play is how children explore the world. In Early Childhood Education, we focus on the developmental domains:
Physical
Cognitive
Communication
Emotional
Social
Play based learning encourages the growth in all of these areas.
For example, simple activities such as colouring develop many skills. Their physical skills are developed when they are using fine motor skils (pincer grasp to hold crayons/markers). Their cognitive skills are being developed as they are being creative. Their communication skills are developed when they tell you what they have drawn. Their emotional skills are being developed when they are proud of their work. Their social skills may be developed as they sit next to their friend and draw together.
It is important to find activities that challenge your child's developmental domains. As I post more and more activities, try to reflect on which domains will be developed if you do that activity!
